My poetry doesn't sound like your poetry.
And that's OK.
In fact, that's part of the mystique of slam poetry - it's incredibly unique and individualized from artist to artist and from piece to piece.
It's also why there's no right or wrong way to perform spoken word poetry. Its all about your message and story, and your ability as a poet and performer to make an audience feel it.
If you're looking for tips on writing or performing spoken word, or some background on what slam poetry is, then check out the Digital Poet blog. Its a library of articles designed to help poets get their game up.

Over time, this site's audience has grown. I've realized that there is an overwhelming amount of unexposed talent. Well I'm giving you a voice. This fan page is filled with poems that have been submitted to me by you guys. If you want to submit your own poem, check out this page.
One of the toughest parts of poetry is figuring out what it is you want to write about. Most poets have a good few stories, but when they really start producing and performing poems, they sometimes struggle with finding new topics to write about - very much like a published author with writer's block. Here are some articles with topics you can write your next poem about :)
The examples of slam poetry and spoken word in this site are my own; they mean a lot to me and I hope they inspire you. The videos of others performing spoken word throughout the site are used in admiration and respect.
Whoever you are, however you got here, there's likely something that you can relate to - and that's why I write: to contrive and put context around the shit people don't talk about, and at the same time to have a little fun with it. Slam poetry has been the forum where my waterfall of emotion has met a pond of style and freedom...hope you enjoy!
The slam poetry on this site
Fom my first crush in school,
To cutting class to be cool;
From that first sip of booze,
To living a life shooting heroin,
From struggling to stay employed
in the fast food industry,
All the way to mingling with corporate America.
From squalor to scholar baby,
And I'm talkin' about that shit with prose!
I got a BS in BS - Ya better believe!
This website started as a repository to store my poetry. It grew to become a forum when I realized my poems had touched and even helped others. Today, I still write poetry for myself. But Digital Poet is for you. It's for all slam poets, established and aspiring, who want to share a message and amplify their voice. You'll find examples of spoken word poems, articles and blogs to help you improve your writing and performance, and topics for poems for those days when your muse seems fizzled. Welcome to my site!
