Your Poetry
|
My poetry doesn't sound like your poetry. And that's OK. In fact, that very uniqueness is one part of the mystique of slam poetry. It's also why there is no right or wrong way to perform spoken word poetry. This art is all about your message, your story, and your ability as a poet and performer to make an audience feel it through your delivery. Welcome. Explore the site. Have fun. |

The slam poetry on this site
Covers everything
From my first crush in school,
To cutting class to be cool;
From that first sip of booze,
To living a life shooting heroin,
Confused;
From struggling to stay employed
in the fast food industry,
All the way to mingling with corporate America.
From squalor to scholar baby,
And I'm talkin' about that shit with prose!
I got a BS in BS - Ya better believe!

The examples of slam poetry and spoken word in this site are my own. They mean a lot to me and I hope they inspire you. The videos of others performing spoken word throughout the site are used in admiration and respect, and I've now incorporated reader-submitted poetry (you can submit your poem here).
Whoever you are, however you got here, there's likely something that you can relate to in my site, and that's why I write. I write to put context around things people talk less about, and I try to have a little fun with it, too. Slam poetry has been the forum where my waterfall of emotions has met a pond of style and freedom, and I hope you enjoy it. This website started as a repository to store my poetry. It grew to become a forum when I realized my poems had touched and even helped other people, particularly addicts. Today, I still write poetry for myself. But Digital Poet is for you. It's for all slam poets, established and aspiring, who want to share a message and amplify their voice. You'll find examples of spoken word poems, articles and blogs to help you improve your writing and performance, and topics for poems for those days when your muse seems fizzled. |
