"Education Of Love"

A Spoken WOrd Poem
by Daniel Nwosu Jr.

Hey poets...before you dive into Daniel's video, I wanted to point out two things. First, there is a write-up below the video from the poet. I don't want to dilute anything he says about his piece and what inspired it because his words are really powerful; please take a moment to check it out.

Second thing: I get a lot of poems submitted and unfortunately I can't post all of them on the site. Even when I don't post them live, I try to give feedback and opinions - not by any means as an attack, but for perspective as an audience member. In Daniel's case, I need to let you all know that he is really just on the fringe of his life in this art - he is the youth of slam poetry, he is what's new, what's now, and what will be. He asked my opinion, and I hope you all agree with me when I told him "MORE" - that's the only thing I want to see. If you want to learn more about his video and production crew, here is the YouTube link. Hope you enjoy this spoken word production of "Education Of Love" as much as I did!

A note from the poet:

I was having trouble figuring out why I was struggling liking one girl and I realized I had desensitized the most important word in the world. Instead of showing love repeatedly I was saying it repeatedly. I would throw it around on a daily basis. So, I looked up the word and the initial function was a noun. So I vowed to myself to think of love as what the dictionary perceives not to be it's primary function which is a verb. I began the poem with hypotheticals (what if's) because to me they signified words which aren't concrete. Then ended the poem by answering those hypotheticals with answers which were all actions. Paint pictures, close your eyes, serve and protect. Those represented love being action.

The poem is for people afraid to love because they don't understand how the most powerful word in the world can be one syllable and only four letters.
