If you've been to a poetry slam at some time or other, there's a good chance you were exposed to a number of different styles of spoken word and performance poetry. Hopefully you've also endured quite a few different topics that people slam about. The topics are nearly endless, but one question I hear a lot is "Can slam poems be funny?" It's a great question. The answer is 'fuck yeah slam poetry can be funny!'
I've put together some videos below of great slam poets taking it to the comedy side of things. Its great that slam poetry can evoke deep emotions and convey serious personal and social issues, but remember there is a full spectrum of topics and ideas to write about - creativity is promoted! So hell yeah, if you want to write a funny slam poem - more power to you (oh, and feel free to send me a link to it if you get a video up!).
Funny Slam Poems From Some Awesome Slam Poets

Poetri the Poet speaks the truth! This should make you both laugh and identify.
This is a great depiction of a spoken word artist using the art, taking advantage of her talent and the medium, to just be herself. God slam poetry is great in so many ways. Megan Falley, kudos to you for this one!!
Dylan Garity definitely performs a piece with subject matter that resonates with everyone - being stuck in the "friend zone". Its great to take a lighter look at the rough side of love - great poem!
Did you know Tom Hanks does slam poetry? He's not a one trick pony! And... he's writing about Full House - right in my wheelhouse of shit I love from when I was a kid! This shows how you can write spoken word poems on just about any topic you can think of.
Denice Frohman delivers a bit of a hybrid here - and it works! A serious and funny slam poem at the same time.
Beau Sia is one of my favorites of all time - he's been making me laugh for years. Check out this spoken word piece, and but be sure to look the guy up for some inspiration.
