To be honest, if you are looking for a quick Valentine's Day poem because you forgot to get something nice for your loved one and you're out of time, I'll help you out by telling you up front that these poems about love are quite different than the ones you are probably looking for. These love poems are not inspired by Shakespeare, they aren't love poems that start with "roses are red, violets are blue" and end with "I love you".... No. These are gut-level, to the core, emotion inspiring poems about love, poems about friendship and even erotic poems. Throughout my life, the concept of love has varied from what you might see in the movies. I actually had more of a love affair with drugs and crime than friends and family. So these are more outside-the-box love poems, they are poems about the kinds of love that I have felt throughout my visit to earth. PS - I do understand that poems about love are important to people, important to society, and vital to the culture of poets. Love and relationships are the crux of existence, the fruit of new generations and, for many, a reason to continue living. I've read love poems time and time again, and perhaps the reason my poems about love are quite different is that love is an emotion I have not yet been able to fully capture in prose.
